Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the procedures and skills needed to start and manage a small business, including preparation of a business plan. Small business and enterprise; entrepreneurship and small business owner-managers; preparation needed to operate a small business; skills and procedures needed to start a business; planning the small business - operational and strategic; completing a business plan for a new venture; marketing the small business; financial management of the small business - starting a business, financial information, operational planning and funding, costing and pricing.

Course learning outcomes

  • Outline the discipline of small business studies.
  • Apply the skills and procedures needed to start and manage a small business.
  • Identify where to obtain access to information, advisers and training essential to the successful start and management of a small business.
  • Complete an elementary business plan for the start of a new business.
  • Demonstrate UniSA Business Enterprise Skills: Teamwork (intermediate level).
