Course overview

This course provides students with the knowledge needed to apply, analyse, and evaluate the theory and practice of negotiation, including conciliation and mediation, of workplace issues, problems, and conflicts or disputes, as well as to collaboratively create and apply a negotiation plan and strategy. This course combines collaborative and individual activities or exercises that are theoretical and practical. These activities or exercises also enable students to reflect on negotiation experiences and outcomes, which is essential to constructing knowledge around negotiation processes and sub-processes, strategies and tactics, and their dynamics as real-life phenomena, and the opportunity to demonstrate their negotiating skills. Students are assessed through a project, skills demonstration and reflection.
