Course overview
The course aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge and understanding with respect to key areas of construction contract administration including payment under the contract, building and construction industry security of payment legislation, time, defective works, contract termination, insolvency, claims and dispute resolution.
Course learning outcomes
- Prepare and calculate interim progress payment claims, payment certificates/schedules, final accounts on construction projects and apply the building and construction industry security of payment legislation to progress payments
- Identify and explain the clauses in construction contracts which deal with time & defective works and consider the various types of claims associated with time & defective works together with relevant case law and legislation
- Explain the rights of parties with respect to termination of contract and insolvency under construction contracts and discuss associated case law and legislation
- Distinguish between extra-contractual claims & claims under construction contracts and describe contractual dispute resolution procedures & the alternative dispute resolution methods commonly used in the construction industry
