Course overview
Students will have the knowledge and skills to conduct a project appraisal to justify a recommendation to a client. Decision making and project appraisal; challenges of multi attributed decision-making; risk sensitivity; cash flow; time value of money; present worth evaluation; rate of return ;estimating the benefit/cost ratio; identifying and quantifying non-financial benefits/externalities; strategic analysis; technical analysis; environmental analysis political analysis; social analysis post appraisal processes.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the project appraisal process and an ability to critically evaluate projects using appraisal techniques.
- Analyse a range of economic values and exercise judgment in applying these values in the context of real world problems.
- Demonstrate professional communication skills to transmit knowledge and ideas to others in a manner which is clear and coherent.
- Use critical thinking to synthesise data from multiple sources to identify and solve project appraisal problems with intellectual independence.
