Course overview

The aim of this course is to analyse the Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia requirements for the design and construction of Class 1 and 10 buildings. The aim of this course is to demonstrate an understanding of building surveying scientific principles used in the design and operation of Class 1 and 10 developments. The Building Code of Australia Volume 2 and associated Australian Standards. Design and assessment of residential buildings. Requirements for timber-framed and steel-framed residential construction. Fire safety, energy efficiency, health and amenity requirements for residential buildings. Bushfire mitigation measures for design and construction of residential buildings. Deemed-to-comply and performance-based assessment of design and engineering solutions of buildings and structures.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the design and construction of residential buildings in accordance with the Building Code of Australia and related Australian Standards.
  • Devise options for the design and construction of residential buildings according to the principles of Performance Design & Engineering.
