Course overview
Students will develop an understanding of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, mechanical and fire service systems of buildings.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the operational dynamics of building services, encompassing water, power, and drainage systems, and analyse the factors influencing their integration with public infrastructure
- Analyse and optimise, using digital tools, building performance, (e.g., indoor lighting, acoustics, thermal comfort, and air quality), for occupants’ satisfaction and operational efficiency
- Analyse the interactions between various building services
- Explore the implications of building services on construction planning and project management, considering diverse project types and delivery methods
- Identify key cost drivers in building service delivery and assess their impact on Total Building Performance, integrating cost-effective solutions
- Demonstrate the interplay between building services management, building performance, and cost implications of services, and formulate strategies to achieve optimal building performance
