Course overview

This course aims to equip learners with fundamental knowledge and skills required for the practice of quantity surveying. The course introduces cost management principles and appropriate knowledge in respect to standard methods of measurement, measurement, bills of quantities, and principles of estimating cost of construction. The learners will develop analytical thinking and effective communication skills for quantity surveying practice. This course intends to introduce learners to the quantity surveying principles enabling them to continue other quantity surveying courses in the program.

  • Describe the role of Quantity Surveyors and cost management principles

  • Apply principles of standard measurement techniques for construction works
  • Apply estimating principles for construction works including tender preparation
