Course overview
This course will provide students with an understanding of the Australian legal system, the regulatory framework surrounding the construction industry, and the key principles of the law of contract and tort. Introduction to the Australian legal system. Introduction to statutory regulation of the construction industry. Offer and acceptance. Consideration. The contents of the contract. Privity of contract. Misleading and deceptive conduct. Discharge of a contract. Remedies for breach of contract. Negligence. Trespass. Nuisance.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the Australian legal system.
- Demonstrate a workable knowledge of the key statutes regulating the construction industry.
- Demonstrate a workable knowledge of the fundamental principles of contract law and law of tort.
- Critically appraise and advise on, from a legal standpoint, case scenarios relevant to statutory and contract law on construction projects.
