Course overview
Students will conduct an independent research project in their major field under academic supervision. The course aims to develop specialised knowledge and capabilities for independent scientific research. Students will:
- Perform a literature review to identify knowledge gaps.
- Develop and present a research proposal.
- Conduct research and present findings in both written (thesis or scientific publication) and oral forms.

Course learning outcomes
- Develop hypotheses based on critical analysis of scientific literature and construct a research proposal pertinent to the Biological Sciences.
- Plan and conduct scientific experiments to test hypotheses, maintaining clear and organised laboratory records and a data management plan.
- Use statistical and/or data visualisation techniques to analyse experimental or observational data and interpret results within the context of existing scientific knowledge.
- Present scientific research findings in both written and oral forms, effectively communicating to both specialist and general audiences.
- Apply ethical principles and regulatory requirements relevant to Biological Sciences and maintain professional standards necessary for responsible scientific research.
