Course overview

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the evolutionary history and diversity of vertebrate animals. A study of the biology of vertebrates at the individual, population and community levels. An introduction to the theory-based view of vertebrate life.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the theories relating to the origin of the vertebrates
  • Give an account of vertebrate systematic nomenclature
  • Demonstrate evolutionary relationships within the vertebrates
  • Describe patterns of anatomy and physiology within the vertebrates
  • Demonstrate proficiency in anatomical analysis and preservation of vertebrate specimens
