Course overview
This course will introduce the diversity of invertebrate and vertebrate animals with an emphasis on evolutionary relationships, classification and functional adaptations.
- Concepts in Zoology
- Evolution and diversity of animals
- Animal form and function
- Animals and people
Course learning outcomes
- Describe how and why we classify animals according to their diversity and evolutionary relationships
- Identify common organisms to broad groups (e.g. Phyla) using key anatomical features
- Explain how animal form and function vary in different groups of invertebrates and vertebrates, particularly regarding major adaptations in anatomy and physiology
- Develop skills in analysis and interpretation of scientific data and evaluate it against published scientific research
- Describe our relationship to animals including reliance in agricultural, ecological, sustainability and Indigenous knowledge contexts
