Course overview

This course will introduce the diversity of invertebrate and vertebrate animals with an emphasis on evolutionary relationships, classification and functional adaptations.

Course learning outcomes

  • Understand the diversity and evolutionary relationships among animals
  • Explain the basic structure and function of different groups of invertebrates and vertebrates
  • Identify common organisms to broad groups (e.g. Phyla)
  • Explain the relationship between structure and function in animals
  • Analyse and interpret scientific data
  • Critically evaluate published scientific research and present concise written and/or oral summaries
