To develop students' understanding of the structure and function of the healthy human body as it interacts with the environment.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply scientific and medical terminology to describe the structure and function of systems within the human body
  • Discuss relevant chemical and physiological concepts as they apply to normal bodily functions and effective pharmacological treatment
  • Apply understanding of the normal structure and function of cells and tissues and apply this knowledge to the body systems studied in this course
  • Explain the structure and function of haematological, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine and reproductive systems
  • Explain how the body systems investigated in in this course interact with other systems to maintain homeostasis
  • Describe the anatomical and physiological changes that occur in humans from conception through to maturation and older age
  • Communicate physiological principles with clarity as part of the care of a client
