To provide students with a more advanced understanding of the forces influencing the development of cities and regions.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate understanding by being able to analyse and synthesise the geographic, economic, and political context of urban and regional development in Australia and globally.
  • Demonstrate understanding by being able to analyse and synthesise urban economic theory.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assemble, analyse and synthesise relevant information to solve a coherent planning problem or planning issue/s.
  • Present an individual report with policy recommendations for a planning problem in Australia.
  • Describe the key economic determinants of land use and city size.
