Course overview

On completion of this course, students should be able to: 

Describe and interpret the key phases of urban planning in Australia, with specific reference to South Australia's planning history 

 Describe and interpret the principal events in South Australia's planning history 

 Identify and appreciate the key literature surrounding cultural heritage management, particularly that which is concerned with the built environment

 Demonstrate a critical understanding of policy dimensions of designating certain buildings and other cultural structures as items of heritage value

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify and evaluate the principal events in Australia's planning history, with specific reference to South Australia.
  • Critically analyse particular explanations of historical events in the development of planning.
  • Identify the key approaches to cultural heritage, with particular reference to the built environment.
  • Enhance verbal, written and graphic presentations skills through both individual and group work.
  • Demonstrate a sense of critical awareness and problem solving skills.
