Course overview
This course will provide students with a broad understanding of implementing Safety Management System (SMS) principles at the organisational level. Contents include: task analysis; information sharing; management support; safety culture; SMS implementation; training; measuring safety; audits; risk management; emergency planning; safety promotion; SMS in maintenance.
Course learning outcomes
- Prepare written communications, which apply problem solving and information literacy skills to safety management in an aviation organisation.
- Discuss the application of Safety Management System (SMS) principles in the aviation industry (e.g. airlines and airports).
- Discuss how organisation structures and risk management impact the effectiveness of Safety Management System (SMS) implementation in an aviation organisation.
