Course overview
The aim of this course is to introduce the operations of large transport category jet aircraft using the UniSA flight deck comprising of state-of-the-art Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 simulators. Through this course, students will be paired up in a crew and develop a comprehensive introduction to the aircraft operation through hands-on practicals in our flight simulator. This course also enables students to develop skills in operating in a multi-crew aircraft, thereby ensuring both the pilot-in-command and co-pilot can operate effectively. The scenarios range from normal procedures to failure management and decision making, whereby students will gain important team skills needed to work effectively on a modern-day flight deck. Content includes: Crew Resource Management; Threat and Error Management; Normal Procedures and Checklist usage; Decision Making; Automation Usage; Non-normal Procedures and Failure Management.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply the body of aeronautical knowledge to the safe operation of a large aircraft used in regular public transport.
- Employ superior Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles as part of a multi-crew cockpit environment.
- Integrate flight planning as part of professional-level flight operations.
- Simulate both normal and abnormal procedures in different scenarios with factors involving situational awareness, checklist implementation and correct decision-making.
