Course overview

To provide students with broad understanding of the principles of financial accounting and enable them to confidently understand financial accounting information from a preparer perspective. Students' understanding of key accounting concepts and disclosure requirements, and their ability to apply fundamental financial accounting recording and measurement methods, will be developed.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply basic accounting principles to record and classify financial information and prepare general purpose financial statements in accordance with the Conceptual Framework and Australian Accounting Standards
  • Read and interpret financial reports and apply knowledge to critically analyse corporate financial and non-financial information and communicate information in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate fundamental level knowledge of financial and management accounting processes and the ability to undertake basic procedures for manual and computer-based accounting systems
