Course overview

This course will enable students to understand the cost management environment and apply basic cost management principles. The course includes: cost estimation; basic control systems; the relationship between costing techniques and cost management; responsibility centres; conventional performance evaluation methods; capacity costing and management; contemporary performance evaluation techniques; pricing; managing suppliers, quality and inventory; social and environmental management; capacity management.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss the need for variations in the design of management information systems.
  • Identify the changing market and operational environments in which businesses operate today.
  • Explain the concept of strategic cost management.
  • Identify the application of cost management principles to enhance the achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrate UniSA Business Enterprise Skills in the context of Accounting: Written Communication (intermediate level).
