Everything you need to know about…

Preferencing

With space for 6 preferences in your SATAC application, don’t forget to explore pathway options into your desired Adelaide University degree. We encourage you to arrange these in order of your passion - with the program you most want to study as your first preference.

We also suggest including some back up options, including related degrees or preparatory programs such as Foundation Studies.

If you are applying for competitive programs with early application deadlines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Oral Health or Veterinary Bioscience, please keep in mind that while you can still adjust the order of your preferences after 30 September, if you remove these preferences and later add them back, your application will not be considered.

1. Preference related degrees

After completing four courses, you may be eligible to apply to transfer or re-apply for another Adelaide University degree. Entry is based on achieving a competitive GPA (Grade Point Average). Chat with our Future Student Enquiry Team if you need support identifying related degrees and then log into your SATAC account to update your application.

2. Consider preparatory programs

Our Foundation Studies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway programs provide fee-free pathways to university, regardless of your educational experience. If you do not meet the required qualifications for direct entry into a bachelor degree, these programs provide alternative entry options.

3. Explore alternative pathways

Don’t forget to consider a range of other alternative pathways including Vocational Education Training (VET), or the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT).

Year 12 results release and your next steps

Once your Year 12 SACE results are released, we recommend following the steps below to explore your next options – including checking your eligibility for guaranteed entry – so you’re ready for the main offer round.

1. Confirm your selection rank

When your Year 12 SACE results are released, log into the SATAC website and use the self-service portal to confirm both your ATAR and your Selection Rank. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR, inclusive of any adjustment factors and is the final ranking that SATAC will use to assess your application for university entry.

If you have trouble logging onto the SATAC website, or you would prefer to speak with one of our friendly team members, our Future Student Enquiries Team will be available on the day of results release. You can give us a call and we can confirm your Selection Rank over the phone, just make sure you have your 9-digit SATAC reference number handy!

Once you have confirmed your Selection Rank, you may wish to check whether you have met the guaranteed entry.

2. Check if you’re eligible for a guaranteed offer

For 2026 entry, you could be guaranteed entry based on either your Selection Rank or your three best Year 12 subject grades. If you are eligible for guaranteed entry* and you put Adelaide University as your first preference, you are guaranteed an offer.

If you don’t meet the guaranteed entry cut-off, or if there isn’t a guaranteed entry cut-off for your preferred program, don’t worry, you’ll still be considered as part of a competitive entry process. As a back-up, we think it’s important for you to consider listing pathway programs in your preference list.

*Which includes meeting any entry requirements such as prerequisites and other eligibility criteria

3. Finalise your preferences

Make sure you finalise your preferences by the Change of Preference deadline on 5 January 2026 to be considered for the main offer round on 15 January 2026.

4. Pay your fees and submit any documentation

Importantly, make sure you have paid your SATAC fee and submitted any required documentation to your SATAC application. If you don’t pay your application fee, you won’t be eligible to receive an offer.

5. Prepare for the main offer round

The main January offer round on 15 January 2026 will consider all preferences and all Adelaide University programs. Offers will be released by 5.00pm so keep an eye on your emails. Also make sure you have your mobile number in the SATAC system, so we can keep you updated via SMS. If you receive an offer, SATAC will automatically accept on your behalf. If you have questions, give us a call - we'd be happy to help.

  • If you receive an offer to your first preference – congratulations! Make sure you check your offer email from SATAC and Adelaide University welcome email to see if your program has an enrolment lapse date. A small number of Adelaide University programs require you to enrol in your courses by a certain date to guarantee your place.
  • If you receive an offer for a program that is not your first preference, SATAC will accept your offer on your behalf, and will automatically consider you for higher preferences you may be eligible for. Log in to your SATAC application to ensure your preferences are in the best order for you to receive the offer you most want.
  • If you don’t receive an offer – remember there are still further offer rounds throughout January and February that you can be considered for. Contact our Future Student Enquiries Team to discuss potential pathways into your preferred degree.

6. I still have questions – who can I contact?

If you still have any questions regarding your application and would like to speak to our Future Student Enquiries Team, we will have extended opening hours over the Christmas and New Year break.

Guaranteed Entry

Adelaide University offers guaranteed entry into many degrees for Year 12 students.

For 2026 entry, Year 12 students may be guaranteed entry based on either their Selection Rank or three best Year 12 subject grades.

How does guaranteed entry work?

Guaranteed Entry has been designed for those applying with Year 12 results to provide certainty when applying to university and waiting on an offer.

You’re guaranteed a place in many Adelaide University degrees if:

  • Either your Selection Rank or best three grades from 20-credit Stage 2 subjects meet the Adelaide University Guaranteed Entry score for that degree, and
  • You have completed SACE (or equivalent) and have an ATAR of 50 or higher (not including adjustment factors), and have met the prerequisites and any specific requirements for admission, and
  • You have listed the degree as your first preference in your SATAC application, with any required documentation submitted to SATAC on time.

How can I find out if my program of interest has Guaranteed Entry?

To see if your preferred degree offers Guaranteed Entry, visit the individual degree page. Each page lists whether Guaranteed Entry is available and outlines the Selection Rank or subject results required for entry.

What if I don't meet the guaranteed entry score?

If you don’t meet the Adelaide University Guaranteed Entry score for either Year 12 Grades or Selection Rank, you’ll still be considered for competitive entry. When there are more eligible applicants than available places in your preferred degree, offers are made to applicants in descending order of Selection Rank scores until all places are filled. The lowest Selection Rank that receives an offer into a degree is called the ‘competitive cut-off’. This can vary each year depending on the number of applicants and places available. Minimum entry requirements, such as prerequisites still apply.

Yay! I‘ve received an offer – what’s next?

Congratulations on receiving an Adelaide University offer! We can’t wait to welcome you to the Adelaide University community.

  • If you receive an offer, SATAC will automatically accept the offer on your behalf – there’s nothing more you need to do.
  • If you have received an offer for a program that is not your first preference, SATAC will accept the offer on your behalf. You will still be considered for an offer to a higher preference in upcoming offer rounds.

Keep an eye on your inbox for your welcome email from Adelaide University. It’s the first email you’ll get as a new student and will guide you through everything you need to know about accessing your Adelaide University student email, key dates and the like.

I’ve received my offer and have questions

If you wish to change your offer response, you can do so by jumping on to the 'Offer Status' page of your SATAC application. Make sure you do this in a timely manner so that you may be considered for any future offer rounds. Contact our Future Student Enquiries Team for help with key dates and timelines.

I didn’t receive an offer – what do I do?

There are many offer rounds, starting in November 2025 and going right through until late February 2026. If you haven’t received an offer after the 15 January 2026 offer round, contact Future Student Enquiries Team to talk through your options to ensure you have pathway programs included in your application.

Domestic offers will be made by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC). Offers will continue to be released until all places are filled. For further information about offer rounds please refer to the SATAC Key Dates website.

Please note: The University reserves the right to make offers outside of the formal SATAC offer rounds and will do so until all places are filled. This can continue up until the census date.

The New Students website (coming soon!) will guide you through each step of the enrolment process, including the pre-enrolment checklist. Make sure you have planned your timetable and completed your enrolment checklist before your program opens. Check out our How to Enrol video to learn more about how the process works.

Enrolment for most degrees begins in early January, although specific dates may vary depending on your degree. Date
