Your student visa

While living in Australia, it’s essential that you hold a valid student visa at all times. If you plan to extend your studies, make sure you continue to meet all visa requirements. You’re responsible for managing your own visa.

Understand your visa conditions

As an international student, your visa comes with specific conditions. You must:

  • Keep your passport and visa current, and apply for renewals before they expire.
  • Enrol in at least one on campus (face-to-face) course each compulsory study period, unless it is your final course and it is only available in online mode.
  • Ensure no more than 33% of your total program is studied in online mode. If you’ve received credit or advanced standing, this applies to the remaining courses.
  • Avoid gaps longer than two calendar months between enrolments, except during the end-of-year break.
  • Complete your program within the duration on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), which usually means enrolling in a full-time load of 24 units per semester.
  • Only request a CoE extension in compassionate or compelling circumstances, such as failing a course/s, approved leave of absence or academic intervention. You’ll need supporting documentation for your application.
  • Speak with an International Student Adviser before making any changes to your enrolment. Email us or make an appointment.

You also need to:

  • Enrol in accordance with your Program Structure or personalised study plan.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Attend all scheduled classes.
  • Work no more than 48 hours per fortnight during teaching periods.
  • Not work in Australia before your program starts.
  • Be aware that any non-mandatory work-based training hours that you undertake as part of our program of study will count towards your student visa work condition limit for that fortnight.
  • Hold valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of your visa.
  • Notify the University of your Australian address, mobile number, personal email address and details of your emergency contact person/s within 7 calendar days of arrival in Australia.
  • Comply with your student visa conditions.

This list isn’t exhaustive. For full details, visit the https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/.

If you do not comply with the above requirements your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) may be cancelled by the University, which may result in the cancellation of your student visa by the Department of Home Affairs.
