Some New Zealand citizens may be eligible to access a subsidised Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loans.
HELP loan eligibility for New Zealand citizens
To access a HELP loan, you must:
- hold a New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV), or have previously held one, and be on a pathway to Australian citizenship
- meet all long-term residency requirements
- be living in Australia while studying.
Long-term residency requirements are:
- you first began to be usually resident in Australia at least 10 years ago, and
- you were a child under 18 and not in a de facto relationship or married when you first began to be usually resident, and
- you’ve been in Australia for:
- at least 8 out of the past 10 years from when you apply for the loan, and
- at least 18 months out of the last 2 years from when you apply for the loan.
Submitting evidence for HELP loan eligibility
When applying for a HELP loan, you’ll need to email the following documents to studentfinance@adelaideuni.edu.au:
- a copy of your current New Zealand passport
- your International Movements Record (available from the Department of Home Affairs).
