Understanding international student fees and financial responsibilities

At Adelaide University, international students are required to pay annual tuition fees for their program of study.

These fees are based on a standard full-time enrolment of 48 units per year and vary depending on your program and enrolment load.

Who is an international student?

You are considered an international student if you:

  • are not an Australian citizen
  • are not a New Zealand citizen
  • do not hold an Australian permanent visa
  • are enrolled or planning to enrol in a course at a higher education provider.

For more information visit StudyAustralia.

What are my responsibilities?

As an international student you are responsible for:

  • paying fees by the due dates
  • enrolling by Census Dates
  • checking your student email
  • reading notices and invoices
  • avoiding Bad Financial Standing (BFS).

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are charged by study period on a pro rata basis according to your enrolled load and program.

A deposit of 50% of the annual program fee is payable when you accept your Offer of Admission. This deposit is credited towards your tuition fees for your first study period. An invoice for the remaining balance is issued before teaching begins and/or upon enrolment.

Invoices are issued for each study period. You can pay via PayNow. For more details, visit the Payments page.

Note: Fees for continuing students may increase annually, as outlined in your offer letter.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

All international students on a student visa, and their dependants, must have health insurance for the duration of their stay in Australia. This is called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This is a requirement set by the Department of Home Affairs.

Bupa is Adelaide University's preferred Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) provider. You are free to choose an OSHC provider of your choice. For information about other OSHC providers see the StudyAustralia website.

Other fees and charges

Additional fees may apply. Visit the Non-tuition fees page to learn more.

Fee exemptions

You may not be required to pay tuition fees if you are:

  • undertaking a research degree or a coursework program with a merit-based scholarship awarded through a competitive process
  • studying in Australia under a formal exchange agreement between your home institution and Adelaide University.
