SA-HELP

Adelaide University Campus Building

Deferring SSAF payment with SA-HELP

SA-HELP is a loan from the Australian Government that helps cover some or all of your Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). If you apply and are approved, the Commonwealth will pay your SSAF directly to the University, and a SA-HELP debt will be recorded with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). This works in a similar way to HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP.

Who is eligible?

  • Australian citizens
  • Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders
  • New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holders
  • Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) holders, who are resident in Australia.

How to apply?

To defer your SSAF using SA-HELP, you must complete a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) assistance form (SSAF CAF) in myEnrolment, before the Census Date for your study period.

Note: You need to apply for SA-HELP once per program of study. If admitted into a new program and wish to defer the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) using SA-HELP, please complete your SSAF CAF for your new program in the myDetails section of myEnrolment.

What information do I need?

Repayment of SA-HELP loan

There is no provision under the Higher Education Support Act 2003 for the University to cancel or reduce a SA-HELP debt once it has been incurred. This means any SA-HELP debt outstanding at the due date will remain payable.

Within 28 days of the Census Date, you will receive a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) from the University. This notice confirms the amount of your Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) that has been deferred to a SA-HELP loan.

Repayment of your SA-HELP debt is compulsory once your taxable income exceeds the minimum repayment threshold set by the Australian Government.
