Student appeal application

Adelaide University students gathering

To submit a decision review or request an appeal, please complete the online Student Appeal Application form.

This form will be available soon. Be sure to read each question carefully and provide supporting documentation.

Student appeals procedure

The Student Appeals Procedure identifies which decisions are appealable and which of these require students to seek a formal review before proceeding to an appeal. The online form also guides you through this.

You will need to identify and explain your grounds for review/appeal. Unless an Adelaide University policy specifically provides otherwise, grounds are limited to the following:

  • There is new evidence, not previously available, which would have materially impacted the decision.
  • Relevant policy or processes were not followed.
  • The decision or penalty applied is disproportionate or unreasonable in the circumstances.

Note

It is important to include specific details, so the Student Governance team understands:

  • what your appeal is about
  • what you seek by way of a resolution of the outcome in the appeal process
  • the key events and decisions leading up to the appeal
  • the people involved in those key events and decisions.

Including supporting material and documentary evidence supporting each of your claims will help to minimise any delays in the assessment of your appeal.

Once your appeal has been received, it will be reviewed for eligibility. If eligible, Student Governance will then undertake an assessment of your appeal to determine if it has grounds, based on the information that you provide in your application and other information available.

We may make further enquiries and may seek to negotiate an outcome. If your appeal presents complex issues or demonstrates grounds and a negotiated outcome is not possible, it will be referred to the Student Appeals Committee (SAC). Appeals against decisions of a Formal Inquiry or Student Misconduct Tribunal will be referred directly to the SAC.

We will keep you updated on the progress of your appeal. Once a decision has been made, you will be advised in writing, with reasons.
