Integrity matters

At Adelaide University, academic integrity is a core value that underpins everything we do. We expect all students to act honestly, ethically and responsibly in their learning. When it comes to integrity, AU Online, has same expectations as on-campus learning.

Academic integrity means submitting your own work, acknowledging the ideas of others and using university resources appropriately. It’s about building trust, showing respect for knowledge, and preparing for a future where integrity is essential.

We are here to help you understand what’s expected and how to meet those expectations confidently and consistently.

What is academic integrity?

Academic integrity is the commitment to honesty, fairness and respect in your studies. It includes avoiding plagiarism, cheating, collusion and other forms of misconduct. We foster a culture of integrity to support your development as an ethical leader and trusted communicator.

Why it matters

Integrity is a graduate quality at Adelaide University. It prepares you for real-world challenges where ethical decision-making is critical.

Employers value graduates who demonstrate honesty and accountability; your academic record reflects your commitment to these principles.

Support and education

We offer our AU students resources to help you understand academic integrity, including writing support, referencing guides and online modules. Our resources provide feedback on your writing, and our Writing Centre can help you develop your skills. If you're unsure about what’s allowed, reach out and remember we’re here to help.

Consequences of misconduct

Breaches of academic integrity are taken seriously. This applies to AU Online the same way it does for on-campus learning. Penalties for misconduct range from a warning to exclusion. That is why our focus is on education and prevention. We want you to succeed, and we’ll support you to do the right thing from the start.

Understanding academic integrity

Here’s what you need to know to stay on track through your AU Online journey and uphold academic integrity in your online studies.

Always submit your own work and cite your sources correctly. Use referencing guides and writing support to help you acknowledge others’ ideas appropriately.

Access writing feedback materials or visit the Writing Centre for help with structure, grammar and referencing. These services are free and available online.

If you're unsure about what’s allowed, ask your tutor or contact student support. It’s better to ask early than risk a breach of integrity.
