Drone research, consulting and training

Our team facilitates and performs a wide range of drone-related research, capability development, and fee-for-service work both domestically and internationally. We work alongside diverse groups of researchers, students, natural resource managers, industry partners, and government bodies to provide research and consultancy services.

The facility offers short courses and bespoke programs for all levels of drone use and capacity building. Courses are available for individuals, organisations, industry bodies, and government departments, and are run by highly experienced instructors to support your training needs.

Collaborating with a diverse network of researchers, industry partners, government agencies, and students, we provide specialised research and consultancy services, as well as tailored training solutions. Our team is experienced in deploying cutting-edge aircraft and sensor technologies to deliver targeted outcomes, both in Australia and internationally.

From developing seagrass monitoring strategies to support marine ecosystem management during critical events such as South Australia's current harmful algal bloom (HAB), to playing a key role in establishing a national network of drone capability for high-throughput field phenotyping through the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN), the URAF is committed to delivering practical, science-driven solutions.

We take pride in building long-term capacity within organisations, enabling sustained uptake of drone-based technologies across the broader community. Since 2017, URAF has delivered certified training to numerous organisations, both locally and globally, through Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) approved programs.
