Empowering nurses and midwives; improving care

The Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre (RBRC) is multidisciplinary research centre working to empower nurses and midwives and improve care.

Our centre brings together a diverse group of researchers and partners to create innovative solutions to some of our most complex health system problems. Using a unique nursing and midwifery-led approach, we harness the power and knowledge of the world’s largest healthcare workforce.

We have a broad-reaching project portfolio and are committed to research that leads to positive change for everyone who engages with health systems – from healthcare professionals of all disciplines through to patients and administrators.

We offer expertise in workforce research, health systems research, evidence synthesis, implementation science, health service evaluation, and policy.

Our vision is to build a powerful and sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce, and our mission is to lead high impact nursing and midwifery research and apply evidence into practice across the healthcare system for the benefit of communities and society.

Our centre is committed to research that leads to positive change for everyone engaging with health systems – from healthcare professionals of all disciplines through to patients and administrators.

The RBRC aims to strengthen the nursing and midwifery professions across the health system by developing a research-driven, evidence-based healthcare platform. To achieve this, the Centre has developed a comprehensive research program focused on advancing the nursing and midwifery disciplines and patient care.

The RBRC monitors the workforce climate of nurses and midwives nationally and internationally to inform workforce development and planning.

We conduct research to inform policy and system decision making regarding workforce composition, roles, supports, structures, recruitment, retention, career progression, and renewal strategies.

We lead and collaborate on research to inform and influence national health and aged care policy and promote alternate policy where required.

Since our inception in 2016, we have driven outstanding research undertaken in partnership with industry and communities.

Translating into real-world impact, our research is collaborative and innovative, with national and international scope and applicability.

Our labs each offer their own focus:

Industry

Staying connected to those working in healthcare is a priority. The time, insight and reflections of health care professionals help us create research that improves working conditions and patient outcomes.

We work with partner organisations to deliver custom research. Our team bring their broad-ranging expertise and industry-leading methodological thinking to every project.

Alongside industry, we also work directly with and learn from everyday consumers. Many of our projects are co-designed with consumers and we have pioneered a new type of consumer-researcher collaboration by inviting consumers to sit on PhD supervision panels.

Academia

We are enthusiastic about building productive partnerships with other research organisations, including those working in different disciplines and internationally.

We are flexible in our collaborative models and able to work on a project basis or as a partner over the long term.

Students

The RBRC supports students in their research ambitions through a program of structured and funded opportunities. We encourage interested nurses and midwives to pursue careers in research and can help you find viable pathways into the field.
