OptoFab forms one of the eight nodes of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF)
The node comprises of teams at Macquarie University (headquarters), the Adelaide University, the University of Technology Sydney, and the Australian National University. Through world-class facilities and highly skilled staff, the OptoFab node supports researchers and industry with a broad range of photonics micro and nanofabrication, characterisation and functionalisation as well as advanced manufacturing capabilities for its clients.
The Adelaide University (formerly The University of Adelaide) joined the ANFF OptoFab Node in February 2009, led by the Institute for Photonics Advanced Sensing (IPAS), thus enhancing the optical fibre fabrication capabilities available within the Node.
The OptFab Adelaide Hub provides unparalleled access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise. Its dedicated and highly skilled staff offer comprehensive services and technical support to users across research and industry. Capabilities include Advanced Manufacturing with machining, 3D printing and engineering. The fabrication of glass, fibre, planar and bulk optical materials including silica, silicon, lithium niobate and polymers.
The node also offers extensive post-processing capabilities, including surface functionalisation, which is critical for many applications in optics, photonics, sensors, biomedical devices, and more. In addition, OptoFab Adelaide also features state-of-the-art testing and validation equipment to support precise characterisation and quality assurance.
