Research capabilities

Sustainable building

Innovative solutions for sustainable energy and green metals

Our research drives innovation across three key areas: advancing net-zero power and fuels; sustainable production of green metals and critical minerals; and pioneering sustainability, circularity and the just transition.

ISER focus areas

Green energy icon

Net zero power and fuels

Renewable and sustainable electricity generation, storage, transmission; the electrification of heat; the production, storage and utilisation of hydrogen and alternative fuels derived from biomass and refuse, together with CO2 capture, utilisation and storage.

Green factory icon

Green metals and critical minerals

Leading the transition to sustainable and low-emission production of metals and energy materials, with a particular emphasis on iron, copper, alumina, aluminium and other green metals as critical enablers of the global energy transition and circular economy.

Recycling icon

Sustainability, circularity and the just transition

Addressing the broader societal challenges associated with the net-zero transition from regulation and policy, through sustainable supply chains and ESG, mitigating climate change, to developing new methods of recycling and re-use, including making novel products from waste.
