About Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing

Bragg's building

Our vision

Global hub of researchers creating transformational new approaches to sensing and transdisciplinary problem solvers.

Our mission

Breakthrough science driving transformational technology for a safer, healthier and wealthier world.

The Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) fosters excellence in research in materials science, chemistry, biology, engineering and physics and develops disruptive new tools for measurement.

IPAS has been created to bring together experimental physicists, chemists, material scientists, biologists, experimentally driven theoretical scientists and medical researchers to create new sensing and measurement technologies. We are built on a strong ongoing partnership with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and their support of numerous research projects and positions.
