Making an IIMPACT on chronic health challenges

Tackling complex health challenges like chronic pain, stroke recovery, persistent breathlessness, child health and rural equity requires bold thinking, shared responsibility, and solutions shaped by and for the communities they affect.

Our vision is to create a future where novel solutions enact real-world change, leading to happier, healthier lives for both people who have a health condition and their surrounding communities.

Adelaide University’s IIMPACT in Health research centre brings together internationally renowned research groups intent on understanding and solving real-world problems and fast-tracking our discoveries to bring about effective and sustainable improvements in health outcomes.

Translation into practice

Embedding implementation from the outset, so discoveries can rapidly improve care and outcomes. By working alongside consumers, clinicians, policymakers, and industry partners throughout every stage of the research process — from discovery to implementation. This collaborative approach empowers communities, informs policy, and ensures our work delivers lasting benefits.

This integrated approach ensures our research is rigorous, relevant, and ready for real-world application. Through co-design with end-users and strong engagement across communities, we create evidence that informs both practice and policy — shaping the future of allied health and public health innovation.

Our research impact is defined by how our discoveries translate into better health outcomes, stronger systems, and more equitable care.

At IIMPACT in Health, research doesn’t stop at discovery — it extends into practice, policy, and community engagement to create meaningful change.

Our research has fast-tracked the adoption of new approaches in pain management, stroke recovery, digital health innovation, collaborative practice models, telehealth delivery, and rural health access. These initiatives demonstrate our ability to embed research within healthcare systems, reducing inequities and improving outcomes across diverse populations.

Beyond measurable outcomes, we also invest in people. Through mentorship, clinician-researcher training, and student engagement, we are building capacity across the health workforce — ensuring innovation remains central to Australia’s health future.
