Information for supervisors and prospective supervisors
All graduate research students at Adelaide University are supported by a supervisory panel, which includes a Principal and at least one Co- or External Supervisor, appointed by the Dean of School. While Master of Research students may be supervised by a single Principal Supervisor, a panel of two or more supervisors is recommended.
Supervision begins at the start of candidature and continues until the graduate research student either completes their degree or exits the program.
Supervision at Adelaide University
Graduate research supervision procedure
The Graduate Research Supervision Procedure applies to graduate research students; graduate research supervisors and advisors; and staff associated with the support, management and leadership of graduate research programs at Adelaide University. Together with the Adelaide University Supervisor Classification and Reporting System (AU SCRS), it outlines the key requirements and expectations for supervision.
Responsibilities of supervisors
Once listed on the AU Graduate Research Supervisor Register (GRSR), supervisors take on a range of responsibilities. These are detailed in the Graduate Research: Research Supervision Protocol, alongside the roles of other staff involved in supporting graduate research students.
Recognising excellence in supervision
Each year, Adelaide University invites nominations for awards that celebrate outstanding supervision and support of graduate research students. More information will be available in due course.
