Graduate research pathways
Adelaide University offers a range of innovative pathways to enable entry into research degrees for recent graduates, and for others with less traditional research backgrounds, such as those with significant professional experience.
Primary pathway
The Master of Research degree is the primary pathway for Bachelor graduates to complete a research qualification and progress to a PhD if desired. Depending on prior learning and whether you receive credit, the Master of Research can be completed in 1 to 1.5 years.
Alternative pathways
Common pathways to PhD also include an Honours degree and a Coursework Master degree (if it comprises a significant research component).
Adelaide University has also established additional pathways aimed at broadening access to research degree opportunities. For example, Bachelor graduates who do not meet the GPA requirement for direct entry into the Master of Research can complete a Graduate Certificate in Research Skills or Graduate Certificate in Research Design (if they have already completed research skills training) as alternate pathways.
For anyone with significant professional experience interested in completing a research qualification, several options exist. If your experience includes extensive research conduct you may be eligible for direct entry into the PhD or Master of Philosophy. If research has not been a central part of your career to date, you may consider entry into the Master of Research as an initial research degree. An alternative option is to complete the Graduate Certificate in Research skills as a potential direct entry into the PhD if requirements are met. Please connect with the Graduate Research School if you have questions specific to your circumstances.
Please refer to the detailed program pages for further information on the entry requirements specific to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy and Master of Research.
