Types of insurance

Covers certain injury-related costs if you are injured on campus or during approved University activities off-campus, including training or competing with an AU Sport club. Find out more about personal accident insurance.

Further information on other University insurance policies applicable to students, including graduate research students, is available in the Insurance section of the student portal.

International graduate research students

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requires all international graduate research students on student visas and their families (on ‘dependant’ visas) to have health insurance while in Australia. This insurance is called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and is required for the duration of the graduate research program. If you hold an Adelaide University scholarship, the OSHC commences two weeks before arrival and covers additional time upon expiry of the scholarship to ensure visa obligations are met during examination time. Please refer to your Offer of Admission for details.

OSHC helps you pay for medical and hospital care that you may need when you are studying in Australia. It also helps pay for most prescription medication. Please ensure that you read the terms and conditions of your OSHC policy to ensure that it is right for you.
