Unlock Your Potential with the GRIT Program

The GRIT program is designed to support your growth as a researcher - professionally, personally and academically. It combines structured training with flexible opportunities, helping you build the skills, confidence and networks you need to thrive during your degree and beyond.

Fixed activities

All graduate researchers complete four core activities. These total approximately 20 hours of training, with slight variations determined by the induction needs in different areas (for example, health and safety inductions in specific environments).

The four fixed activities are:

  • Graduate Researcher Induction
  • Research Integrity
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Methodologies
  • Respectful Relationships in Research Training

Flexible activities

You will also choose from a wide range of training and experiential activities that match your research and professional development needs. These are grouped into three Researcher Development Domains, each with specific focus areas.

  • Self-paced online courses giving you flexibility to learn when it suits you
  • Industry programs and placements that offer real-world experience and networking
  • The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition, where you can sharpen your research communication skills in a supportive environment

Tailor your experience

GRIT is flexible by design. You are encouraged to explore opportunities beyond what is formally offered by the Graduate Research School. This might include:

  • Presenting at conferences
  • Publishing your research
  • Engaging with community or industry partners
  • Participating in outreach or commercialisation activities

As long as the activity supports your development and meets GRIT criteria, it can count towards your program. Just make sure you can provide evidence of participation.

If you are unsure whether an activity is eligible, or you would like help finding something that fits your goals, the GRIT team is here to support you: grit@adelaide.edu.au.
