Gender research for an inclusive future

The Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender advances our understanding of how gender and sexualities shape - and are shaped by - society, culture, law, politics and public policy.

We bring together interdisciplinary scholars to explore issues such as equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice, fostering research that informs both public debate and policy development. By connecting academics, students and community partners, the Centre creates opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and impactful projects that challenge inequality and promote positive social change.

Our work spans local, national and global contexts, addressing complex gender-related challenges through scholarship, innovation and community engagement.

The Centre is committed to cultivating an inclusive research environment that empowers emerging scholars and contributes meaningfully to shaping a fairer, more equitable society.

Dedicated to advancing understanding of gender, the Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender investigates intersections with societal, cultural, legal, and policy frameworks. Our researchers investigate critical issues such as gender and leadership, health and care, belonging, lived sexualities, and environmental justice, combining diverse perspectives to generate knowledge that drives social impact.

Through initiatives like the Ongoing Legacies of Discrimination and Violence Network (OLIRN), the Centre examines the enduring effects of social injustices related to gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and indigeneity. This work highlights how systemic inequalities are perpetuated across generations and informs strategies for creating more equitable social structures. Researchers employ a wide array of methodologies, including feminist mentoring frameworks, gender-responsive budgeting analyses, and community-engaged research, ensuring that both rigorous scholarship and practical relevance underpin our work.

Our research capabilities are grounded in a commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice. By integrating academic inquiry with real-world engagement, we contribute to shaping policies, programs and practices that advance gender equality. We empower emerging scholars, support innovative projects, and provide thought leadership on pressing gender-related issues, positioning the Centre as a leading contributor to global conversations on gender and social change.

The Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender translates research into meaningful impact across communities, policy and society. Our work goes beyond research, focusing on initiatives that create tangible change and foster greater understanding of gender and equity issues.

Through partnerships with government, industry and community groups, the Centre contributes directly to policy development, workplace equity strategies, and programs addressing gender-based discrimination. Initiatives such as public seminars, workshops and community-led forums enable knowledge sharing and empower participants to apply evidence-based strategies in their own contexts.

The Centre also leads collaborative networks that bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers, and supports knowledge exchange, joint projects, and mentoring programs that build capacity and cultivate emerging leaders in gender research.

Our impact is further amplified through public engagement, including media commentary, accessible reports and participation in conferences and roundtables. These activities ensure that research findings reach beyond academia, influencing public discourse and supporting informed decision-making.

We also champion the training and mentorship of early-career researchers and students, providing guidance, opportunities and support to cultivate the next generation of scholars and practitioners committed to advancing gender equity.

Through these initiatives and by connecting scholarship with practice, policy and public engagement, the Centre ensures that its work not only advances knowledge but also contributes to a fairer, more inclusive and equitable society.
