Our vision

Safeguarding the environment now for future generations.

The Environment Institute is driving transformational change by connecting the knowledge and thought leadership of our researchers to the world’s most critical and complex environmental issues. We are unwavering in our commitment to identifying actionable solutions that will safeguard the environment and deliver tangible and lasting economic, societal, and cultural benefits. Our multidisciplinary work encompasses the world’s critical land, air, and water resources with a common and unrelenting focus on halting and reversing environmental decline to create a better future for all. We will achieve that by working in partnership with industry, Government, and the community.

Environment Institute governance

We engage a diverse range of leaders, helping us gain an understanding of our past and plan for our future. The Environment Institute Advisory Board works with the Director to govern the Institute and develop its strategy. The Executive team are the Institute Management Committee and consists of five leaders from within the Institute, helping the Institute to understand its past and plan for its future. Research Initiative Leads are assigned to each of the nine broad research foci of the Institute.

The Environment Institute Future Leaders Committee drives NEST – the Network for Emerging Sustainability Thinkers – which empowers and connects higher-degree and early-career researchers within the Environment Institute. Through specialised training, interactive seminars, and hands-on events, NEST fosters research capacity and cross-disciplinary thinking, enabling emerging researchers to meet interconnected challenges at a local and global scale.
