At the Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L), our research projects explore how technology is reshaping the way we learn, teach and lead in a digitally connected world.
We investigate the possibilities and challenges of emerging technologies – such as artificial intelligence, learning analytics and augmented learning – to understand their impact across educational, professional and lifelong learning environments.
Our projects are grounded in real-world contexts and guided by strong partnerships with educators, students, leaders, government, and industry. Together, we examine how digital tools and data can enhance learning outcomes, build future-focused capabilities, and support inclusive, engaging education systems.
From networked learning environments to complexity of leadership in times of change, our work aims to transform theory into practice – building tools, frameworks and strategies that unlock learner potential and prepare educators to lead with confidence in complex digital ecosystems.
As a Centre, we actively:
- undertake research in learning analytics and personalised and adaptive processes leading the development of personal learning graphs for students to better support and guide learners both within and beyond formal education contexts.
- undertake competency-mapping to ensure learners transition into new roles in organisations and receive adequate support, enabling employees to shift into new fields and develop opportunities for career progression.
- connect with Adelaide community agencies (health care, education and cultural) to research the lifespan of learning and the role of Adelaide University in serving the needs at different stages of these learning processes.
- act as a focal point for multi-disciplinary collaborations to secure research funding.
- work with Adelaide University and the Department for Education (SA) to advance learner success for underrepresented populations.
- promote and support the adoption and uptake of applied research outcomes into Adelaide University teaching and learning practice.
- provide an exemplar research model for integrating industry, government and university stakeholders to address complex societal challenges at University, local, national and international scales.
