All researchers working with animals must undergo practical training and competency assessment, as required by the Adelaide University Animal Ethics Committee. The CAF and the University Veterinarians provide practical training and competency assessment free of charge to all users of the facility.
Before access can be granted, a facility specific one-on-one induction must be completed with the Facilities Team Leader.
The Core Animal Facility (CAF) is in City West North Terrace precinct and is an Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) Physical Containment Two (PC2) approved and registered barrier animal facility, housing Mice, Rats, and Zebrafish. The CAF embraces the principles of best practice striving to operate above minimum legislative standards through a process of continual assessment and promotion of the 3R’s.
The CAF also offers an extensive training program that enables users to be confident and capable in performing procedures within the facility.
