About me

A/Prof Rebecca Perry is the Program Director for Medical Sonography at Adelaide University and has an honorary position as a post-doctoral researcher in echocardiography at Flinders Medical Centre. She has been a cardiac sonographer since 1998 and has been involved in research and advanced echocardiographic techniques since 2003. She has extensive experience in advanced echocardiographic techniques such as strain and 3-D echocardiography.  She completed her PhD in 2013 and her Post-Doctoral Fellowship with the Heart Foundation through Flinders University in 2018.  She is passionate about education and excellence in echocardiography and advanced imaging techniques.

  • Winner of the Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australasian Sonographers Association 2023
  • University of South Australia Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025
  • Finalist for UniSA Mid-career researcher of the year award 2021
  • Heart Failure Prize, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand 2018
  • Outstanding Service award from the Australian Sonographers Association – 2015

  • Distinguished Fellow of the International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound 2017 – current. Organiser of the 2022 World Congress of Echocardiography and Allied Techniques.
  • Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (from 2018). Member from 2011 – current
  • Affiliate member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand 2000 – current.  Member of the scientific organizing committee for CSANZ ASM Adelaide 2008, 2016 and 2023. Member of the Imaging Council Executive. 
  • Fellow of the Australasian Sonographers Association (2019).  Member of the Cardiac Special interest group, 2007 – 2018.  Chairperson of the Cardiac Special Interest Group June 2012 – 2016. Member of the scientific organizing committee for cardiac day 2009 and 2014. On the editorial board for Sonography (journal of the ASA).
