About me

Alexandra Gavrilidis is a Lecturer: Academic Development in Adelaide University’s Teaching and Learning Innovation. She works collaboratively with faculty to support the development of inclusive and engaging courses that promote authentic and deep learning. Alexandra’s research interests include course design, communication and technology in education and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Her curiosity extends to the social and cultural factors that shape identity and influence how people interact with each other and the world around them. 

Alexandra began her career as a secondary school teacher, working across a range of subject areas including History, Psychology, Religion, Research Project, Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) and Activating Identities and Futures (AIF), Music and Rite Journey. She also was the Humanities Leader of Learning at a Catholic school in the Adelaide CBD, managing a team of teachers delivering Australian Curriculum and SACE humanities subjects and embedding Visible Learning into teaching practice. In this role, she introduced whole-cohort initiatives that developed students’ creativity, empathy and resilience. Alexandra was recognised in 2024 with the Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) Early Career Teacher (Secondary) Award. Her teaching style is enthusiastic, relational, and grounded in fostering student agency, curiosity and engagement. She also has a strong focus on developing students’ metacognition and self-efficacy and using AI to enhance learning and assessment.

Additionally, Alexandra has a passion for promoting fitness and wellbeing in the community. She been a group fitness instructor for many years, holding a Certificate III in Fitness, and teaches weekly group fitness classes, including Zumba Fitness, in local gyms and community settings.
