About me

Dr Alex Wawryk received First Class degrees in Economics and Law, and a PhD in Law, from the University of Adelaide. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Adelaide Law School and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia. Alex conducts research into various aspects of energy and natural resources law, including renewable energy law, petroleum regulation and environmental law. Her research into renewable energy and the law has focused on overcoming legal barriers to the development of renewable energy, while her research into mining and petroleum law is focused on environmental regulation of these industries. Alex has also conducted research into environment protection and mining law in South Australia, including the protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage. More recently, she has researched the adequacy of the legal regime in South Australia for restoration projects, focusing on the restoration of tidal flows and oyster reefs. Alex is currently the Director of the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Research Unit at the Adelaide Law School.

Alex teaches across a range of undergraduate courses concerned with energy, environment and natural resources law, including the following: 
  • Mining and Energy Law; 
  • Environmental Law;
  • Biodiversity and Regional Australia Study Tour;
  • Climate Change Law; and
  • Aboriginal Peoples and the Law. 
Alex has also taught postgraduate courses in Mining and Energy Law, and in International Energy Law; and Contract Law at the undergraduate level.
