Driving innovation across food, agriculture and wine

Adelaide University is committed to driving innovation across Australia’s food, agriculture, and wine sectors. Our researchers work closely with our industry partners to deliver practical, scalable solutions that enhance productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness.

Through expertise spanning agriculture, viticulture, food science, nutrition, business, marketing, engineering and sustainability and forestry — and through key sites such as the historic Roseworthy campus, the Waite Research Precinct, and the Mount Gambier hub supporting the Green Triangle forest industry — Adelaide University translates research into practical solutions that help businesses innovate, remain competitive and achieve their sustainability and growth objectives.

What we do and how we partner

We work with industry partners to solve complex challenges in the food, agriculture and wine sectors, driving innovation and creating economic impact. From crop productivity to sustainable agriculture, food innovation, and climate-adaptive practices, our researchers and students collaborate with industry on a variety of projects:

  • Developing genomics-driven crop improvement platforms to enhance drought and pest resilience in broadacre and horticultural production systems
  • Using phenomics and analytics to optimise varietal performance and soil-plant-environment interactions for sustainable agriculture
  • Exploring the impact of a Mediterranean diet on cognitive and cardiovascular health.
  • Understanding the impact of nutritional supplements and meal replacement
  • Leading advanced wine-science and value-chain research on flavour chemistry, smoke-taint detection and consumer preference to drive export competitiveness
  • Driving innovation in the Green Triangle’s forest and timber industries — including research based in Mount Gambier — through advanced sensing, modelling and climate-resilient plantation management
  • Advancing soil chemistry and biology research to inform next-generation soil and cropping management practices and assessment policies
  • Enhancing brand growth strategies for food and wine
  • Identifying improvements in no-till cropping technology
  • Developing a world-first automation for simultaneously grading almond quality and detecting mycotoxin contamination in kernels.
