Star-filled fun for space fans

Venture into outer space during the school holidays with a Planetarium experience. Enjoy a tour of the cosmos guided by one of the Planetarium’s experienced astronomers and watch the mysteries of our solar system unravel on the dome-shaped ceiling. 

Important notes – please read before booking 

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the session commencement to register and be seated comfortably. 
  • For safety reasons, entry after the session has begun and re-entry are not permitted.  
  • Children aged 3 years and under may attend free of charge, provided they are seated on their carer's lap and do not occupy a separate seat. *This applies to sessions aimed for children up to 8 years of age and daytime sessions only.  
  • ALL patrons occupying their own seat, including children aged 3 years and under, are required to purchase a ticket. 
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult to be admitted into the Planetarium. 
  • If you are attending with a companion card, please contact the Planetarium via phone or email before booking to ensure seat availability. 
  • PARKING – if you are parking in the ML6 car park or along University Boulevard, please ensure you pay for your parking upon arrival. A parking meter is located at the front of the materials and minerals building (white building next to the Planetarium). 
  • NO food and drink is permitted inside the Planetarium. 
  • The use of mobile phones, electronic devices and photography is prohibited inside the Planetarium. 
  • Prams are not permitted in the Planetarium. 
  • Please note: The Planetarium is not suitable for children under 4 years of age. If you do bring younger children, we kindly ask that you seat yourself closer to the door. As a courtesy to other patrons, if your child becomes restless or noisy during the session, we ask that you please exit the Planetarium. We have a foyer area for carers attending with younger siblings. 
  • EVENING SESSIONS: Please be aware that children (including infants) who do not meet the minimum age requirement will not be admitted into the Planetarium.

Planetarium experience

60mins – Planetarium experience with a full-dome movie 

Our school holiday sessions will take you on a captivating journey across the Universe. Join one of our highly experienced astronomers as they guide you through constellations, the Solar System and beyond. Marvel at the immense scale of the universe and observe the breathtaking beauty of the night skies projected on the domed ceiling. The general sessions run for 60mins and feature a full-dome movie. Tickets $14 per person. Please see individual sessions for age requirements. 

90mins – Advanced Planetarium experience with a full-dome movie 

Be taken on an immersive guided tour of the night sky as our astronomer takes you on a journey through space. Learn about the stars and the many constellations we see during our voyage around the Sun. Session includes a full-dome movie. Tickets are $22 per person. Please see individual session for age requirements.

A journey through the solar system

This session takes you on an incredible journey through our solar system. We get close up with the Sun, the Planets and their moons, asteroids and comets, and plunge into the Kuiper belt. Discover the hidden beauty of our celestial home and see it in wavelengths not visible to the unaided eye. This session includes a full-dome movie.  

Tickets are $22.00 per person.

Space school for kids – solar system

Our Space School includes a Virtual Reality experience that will take kids out of this world! 

Drop your kids off for a fun-filled space session where they will learn about the solar system and the night sky through a planetarium experience, which includes a full-dome movie.  

Tickets $45.00 per child. Ages 7-10.  

A drink bottle, snacks and packed lunch required. 

*Caregivers are not required to stay, but are welcome to join for all or part of the day.

Space school – astronaut

Join us for a space school experience where we dive into the fascinating intersection of human biology and space exploration! Learn how astronauts' bodies adapt to the challenges of living in space, from muscle loss to bone density changes and the effects of microgravity. Through engaging activities, including VR, a planetarium experience and hands-on workshop, participants will uncover the science behind the human body's resilience and the technology that helps astronauts stay healthy. Discover the fascinating methods NASA engineers use when it comes to designing and packing equipment for spaceflights. Get ready for an out-of-this-world adventure as we explore the amazing ways space affects the human body! 

Tickets $45.00 per child. Ages 9+

Black holes are the strangest objects in the universe. What exactly is a black hole? How big are they and how big can they get? There's only one way to find out... This session includes a full-dome movie.
