Helping people living with communication and swallowing difficulties to communicate and reach their full potential

Based at Adelaide University’s City West and Elizabeth Health Clinics, the speech pathology service offers assessment and treatment for children, youth and adults. Services are delivered year-round by students under the supervision of certified and experienced Speech Pathologists.

We deliver services that are flexible and family-centered, which may be funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), with rebates also available via Medicare with a health plan referral, and Private Health Cover.

Appointments are essential. Referrals are not required.

Services

Services for adults 

You may be interested in speech pathology services if you are having difficulty with your speech, voice or swallowing. 

We can support you in a range of rehabilitation areas including:

  • Language (e.g. talking to and understanding others in conversation)

  • Speech (e.g. talking clearly and being understood by others)

  • Reading and writing

  • Cognition (thinking), problem solving, and memory

  • Social communication (e.g. the use of language for social purposes)

  • Voice quality and loudness (e.g. using appropriate voice in daily activities)

  • Education and communication partner training (e.g. to provide alternative methods or assist individuals, families or caregivers to communicate effectively)

  • Eating and swallowing food and fluids safely.

We are currently unable to support the following services:

  • Tracheostomy

  • Laryngectomy

  • Assessment and diagnosis of neurodiverse conditions

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) assessment and prescription

  • Fluency

  • LSVT treatment. 

Services for children 

As part of an interdisciplinary service, the Speech Pathologist will work with the important people in your child’s life (for example family, teachers, and other therapists) to share goals, progress and strategies. Our Speech Pathologists can also provide opportunities to link in with other members of our expert team if needed.

We can work with you and your family to support your child to build new skills and develop strategies for the following:

  • Early communication development

  • Play skills and social skills

  • Late talkers

  • Speech difficulties and stuttering

  • Language delays/disorders

  • Phonological awareness

  • Difficulties with spelling, writing, reading comprehension

  • Voice disorders

  • Cleft palate

  • Communication difficulties related to hearing loss

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder and Social Communication Disorder.

In addition to providing you with valuable client care, the service delivers quality clinical education to Adelaide University students – our next generation of healthcare professionals. Educated in state-of-the-art facilities, students gain invaluable practical experience and exposure to a wide range of client needs.

Telehealth is the use of telecommunications technology such as video conferencing, telephone consultation and/or email to deliver long distance clinical services to client. Telehealth provides a solution that allows for clients and families to still have access to allied health support without having to attend in-person.

Telehealth appointments are available for physiotherapy, exercise physiology, podiatry and occupational therapy for Children.

Parking
The Health Clinic has a designated parking zone with free parking available to patients in the carpark located north of the clinic entrance and through the boom gates. A code is required to exit the carpark which can be obtained from our reception staff.

Some buses that stop along John Rice Avenue are within walking distance of the clinic. Please check the Adelaide Metro website or your preferred transport planning app.
