Consent forms & fact sheets
Please view the RVH Consent Form prior to your visit. For our Large Animal Patients, there is a Biosecurity Form included and we will ask for a Property Identification Code. An RVH Team Member will guide you upon admission and be available to answer any queries and discuss the contents of this form with you. Don't worry - you will not need to print or bring a signed form with you; we will have one ready for you that is tailored to your pet and their procedure.

Were you instructed to fast your pet from food or water before a procedure or anaesthetic? Below is a general guideline.

General guidelines for fasting prior to general anaesthesia and selected procedures
| Animal | Fasting Time |
|---|---|
| Dogs & Cats - 6 months of age or older | No food/treats for 10 hours prior to hospital admission. Please keep fresh, clean water available at all times. |
| Puppies & Kittens - 6 months of age or younger | Specific instructions will be given during the consultation - if required, please phone us on 08 8313 1999. |
| Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Birds & Rodents | Do not fast. Bring fresh food (including hay if applicable) into the clinic for them to continue eating. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. |
| Ferrets | Fast for 4-6 hours prior to surgery. Bring a small amount of their favourite food into the clinic so we can encourage them to eat post-surgery. |
| Horses | Horses require fasting prior to gastroscopic examinations and general anaesthetics. Horses do not require fasting for standing sedation (example: standard dentistry, radiographs, standing examinations). For gastroscopic procedures and general anaesthetics, please fast your horse from all feed for 12 hours. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available.
