LinkedIn Learning provides a personalised learning experience for anyone who is looking to expand their skill sets. The LinkedIn Learning library contains thousands of digital courses led by industry experts, covering a wide range of professional, creative and technical topics, aimed at all levels of learner.

Content is deliverable in bite-sized segments that can be viewed anytime on any device, online and off, with new content being added every week.

Logging into LinkedIn Learning

If you have an existing profile or want a new LinkedIn Profile you can connect it to your Adelaide University LinkedIn Learning account. This means you can share details of courses you have completed to showcase your skillset. This will also save you from logging in with multiple passwords. Places to study

Our libraries provide a great range of spaces to suit all study preferences. 

You'll find silent, quiet, and collaborative discussion zones at all locations. Each of our campus libraries is designed to be a welcoming place for students to study, learn, and recharge, and we are a proud member of the Welcome Here Project.


Adelaide University students can book study spaces, including meeting rooms and study booths. Many of the study rooms are equipped with computers, whiteboards, and additional equipment. Check the details of study rooms and make a booking via the <student app> [insert link TBC] or the study room booking page. Bookings are available for up to three hours a day.

*Mawson Lakes Library is currently undergoing a refurbishment on level 2. The noise from the refurbishments is audible across all levels. Alternative study spaces have been made available in SCT building for the duration of the works.

Adaptive technology suites are available for Adelaide University students to minimise the impact of disabilities or medical conditions. These rooms contain technology and furniture that support the learning of visually and audio impaired students, and others with special needs. Register with  Access and Inclusion Services  to access the suites with your student card.

Multi-access rooms are available to all members of the University community and provide a dignified, private and appropriate space that supports the needs of parents, breastfeeding parents, and people with disabilities, medical or mental health conditions. Access and Inclusion services can provide further information.

Technology in the Library

Our libraries provide a wide range of standard and specialist technology and equipment to support your study and research needs.


Computers (PCs) are available at all our libraries. Most require an Adelaide University login for access, and are available on a first come, first served basis. It is also possible to book a computer online.

The Barr Smith Library also has designated computers for music students, which have the Sibelius notation software installed.

Training rooms and collaborative teaching spaces also contain PCs and are available for students to use when they are not booked. Check the room schedule on or near the door.

The Barr Smith have some carrels with a study desk and monitor that you can plug your own device into. 

You can find Public PCs across all libraries, which are limited to 60 minutes use only and do not require a login. These provide access to Library Search and a wide range of our electronic resources.

With supersized screens, COWs are great for project work or when you need to get together for a group assignment. COWs are available for use within the following locations:

  • Brookman Library (CEA) – Level 3 and Level 4
  • Magill Library – West wing and North wing
  • Roseworthy Library
  • Waite Library
  • Whyalla Library – Study Room 2

Interactive whiteboards provide an engaging way to collaborate, brainstorm, and share ideas. These include: 

  • Smart boards that function like large touchscreens, which allow you to control apps, browse the web, and collaborate directly on the screen. 

    Locations: 
    • Brookman Library – Level 3, B3-32
    • Jeffrey Smart Library (CWE) – JS2-02, JS4-02, JS6-02
    • Mawson Lakes Library (MLK) – Level 2, C2-1
       
  • Electronic whiteboards, which allow you to write or draw digitally and save content. These are available for use in Waite and Roseworthy campus libraries. Whiteboard accessories can be borrowed from Ask Library at Roseworthy campus for 3-hour loan.

Laptops are available for loan at each metropolitan campus for loan to Adelaide University students via the lapsafe. 
 
Loan periods are for either one day or for seven days. You will need your Adelaide University student ID card to borrow and return a laptop. You can also check the availability status of the laptops online [insert link from Springshare]. 

Borrowing a Laptop

Laptops are available for loan from Laptop Self-Service Unit/LapSafe units at most campus libraries:

  • Barr Smith Library – Level 3
  • Brookman Library (CEA) – Level 3
  • Jeffrey Smart Library (CWE) – Level 2
  • Magill Library – East Wing
  • Mawson Lakes Library (MLK) – Ground floor

To borrow a laptop:

  1. Use your student ID card or the Student App at the LapSafe unit.
  2. Accept the Device Loan Agreement terms and choose your loan duration.
  3. Collect your laptop and charger from the indicated locker.
  4. Make sure the locker door is closed to complete the borrowing process.
  5. A confirmation email and a copy of the loan agreement will be sent to your student email. The loan will also appear in your myLibrary account.

Important:

  • Laptops are issued with a charger only (no mouse or bag).
  • Available laptops are shown with a blue light; red indicates charging.
  • Save your files to OneDrive or a USB—files are deleted upon restart. 
  • Renewals and hold requests are not available for laptops.

Returning a Laptop

Laptops must be returned to the same campus they were borrowed from.

To return:

  1. Use your student ID card or Student App at the LapSafe unit.
  2. Select Return on the touchscreen.
  3. Plug in the charger to the laptop and place it in the indicated locker.
  4. Wait for the locker light to turn red, then close the door and select Finished.

Important:

The return process isn’t complete until the laptop is plugged in and the locker door is closed. The item will remain on your record until properly returned.

Terms of Use

  • Students may only borrow one laptop at a time.
  • By borrowing a laptop, you accept responsibility for its care and timely return.
  • Long overdue, lost, damaged, or incomplete returns (e.g., missing charger) may result in replacement fees being charged.
  • Failure to return a laptop may result in an invoice for a replacement laptop and a block on further laptop borrowing.

iPads can be borrowed from Level 3 of Barr Smith Library and are available to borrow for up to 12 weeks. Each iPad comes with a case and charger. While you don’t need to have an Apple ID to use the iPad, you can choose to login as yourself. Please be aware that iPads are securely reset and wiped after every loan, so you will need to ensure that you back up any documents before returning the iPad.  

Height-adjustable desks are available at most of our libraries to provide flexible workstations that support both seated and standing study preferences.

Light boxes (trace boxes) are available from the Jeffrey Smart Library, providing a bight, even surface for tracing, drawing and detailed visual work. They are located on level five and are available on a first-come, first-service basis.

The Library provides access to equipment for viewing physical media formats, including CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes. 

  • Portable USB disc drives are available for 3-hour loan from the Ask Library service point at each library for playing CDs and DVDs on devices without built-in disc drives. 
  • Audio-visual (AV) viewing equipment is available in Study Room 221 on Level 2 of the Barr Smith Library for playing DVDs and VHS tapes. You can book via Ask Library.

Microform viewers are available at the Law Library.

  • To view specific microform (i.e., microfiche and microfilm) you will first need to request them via Library Search [insert link].
  • Microform viewers can be in high demand during peak times. Contact  Ask Library to make a booking.
  • Training is available for anyone needing assistance with the microform viewers, particularly if you are new to microform. Contact  Ask Library  to arrange training. 

Each library has one or more multifunction printers which offer printing, photocopying and scanning functionality. Multifunction printers in the libraries are managed by IT

Printing and photocopying both use the University-funded print quota, while scanning to email and OneDrive is free.

Large format scanning 

A large format scanner is available for use by appointment in Special Collections. The scanner: 

  • Scans in black & white and colour
  • Has an image resolution up to 600dpi
  • Scans documents up to 40 inches wide (up to A1 and B0 size)

To make an appointment to use the scanner, please contact  Ask Library.

A service point is located near the main entrance of every Library building*, including regional campuses (Mt Gambier – Learning Centre; Whyalla – L Building). To request assistance, simply pick up the phone and call the number displayed on the monitor for Library or IT support. Staff are available to help over the phone, via video call, or in person.  

You can also use the Ask Library service, to contact Library staff via email, chat or via the telephone number.

*The service point at the Jeffrey Smart Library (CWE) is on level 2 near the main lifts.
