Opened in 2014, the Jeffrey Smart Building (JSB) is named after prominent Australian painter Jeffrey Smart who was born in Adelaide. JSB is a purpose-built student learning centre featuring all of the facilities central to modern learning. The Jeffrey Smart Library offers a variety of spaces for study, research and group work and is located on our Adelaide City Campus West.  

The library is also home to select Special Collections and University Publications.

The library is located in the Adelaide City Campus West on Hindley Street. Within the library there are multiple lifts providing access to all levels of the library.  

  • Accessible toilets are located on every level behind the main lifts. 

  • An Adaptive Technology Suite is available for Adelaide University students to minimise the impact of disabilities or medical conditions. Register with Access and Inclusion to access the suites with your student card. More information is available through Access and Inclusion

  • A Multi-Access Suite provides members of the University community with access to a dignified, private and appropriate space that supports the needs of parents, breastfeeding parents, and people with disabilities, medical or mental health conditions. The following items are available for loan from the lapsafe in the library: 

  • Over 1700 study spaces (combination of desk, group, carrel and computer) with some being bookable.  
    • Group discussion areas
    • Quiet study areas located in JS3-04, JS3-04A, JS3-04B, all of level 4 and all of level 6
    • Silent study area located in JS6-12, JS6-12A, JS6-12B, JS6-12C, JS6-12D, JS6-12E and JS6-12F
  • 470 computers 
  • Study rooms 
  • Law Practice Room
  • Height adjustable desks
  • Kitchen facilities
  • Binder and binding supplies
  • Lockers 
  • Laptops for loan

The returns chute is located on level 1 of the Jeffrey Smart Building, at the southern end of the building near the lift.  Items can be returned to any of the Adelaide University libraries.

Printing is available on levels 2-5 and uses your student quota. All of the printers in the library can also be used for photocopying and scanning. Learn more about printing, photocopying and scanning in the library.
