Meet Jake – Senior Workforce Insights Specialist

I was born and raised in Adelaide and this city has always been home.  What has always driven me is a passion for data and a deep belief in the power of culture. I love helping teams thrive and I've always been drawn to environments where collaboration and insight lead to meaningful change – which is what brought me to the University. Joining the University is more than work, it's a chance to contribute to a community I care about, using data to make a real impact while continuing to learn and grow every day.

Here, I get to combine everything I love – analytics, strategy and people, and I enjoy working alongside great people and diverse teams.  Being part of this journey for Adelaide University feels right. It's exciting, it's purposeful and it's just the beginning!

How do you start your day?

My morning routine begins with breakfast and coffee with my wife followed by a quick train ride to the University gym at the North Terrace Campus. The convenience of the location, paired with the flexibility the University offers, means I can fit a lot into my morning.

At the gym, I get to work with fantastic trainers with a wealth of expertise. Afterwards, with a coffee in hand from one of the numerous coffee shops on campus, I take a short walk to our office and start setting priorities for the day.

How do you do your best work?

I get my best work done when I have the freedom to design my day with intention. Quiet spaces allow me to dive deep into complex problems without distraction. Being part of a supportive, collaborative team enables me to learn from others and see problems from different perspectives. Whether it's a quick coffee catch-up or a strategic discussion, those moments of connection keep ideas flowing and energy high. It's that balance between independence and teamwork, structure and flexibility that allows me to do my best work.

What is the philosophy you live and work by?

A philosophy I live and work by is to leave every space better than I found it, whether it's a conversation, a project or a person's day. My goal is to bring a bit of positivity, clarity or momentum in every interaction. Success isn't just about what I’m able to achieve, but about how I help others along the way.

How do you balance health and wellbeing at work?

I look after my health and wellbeing by making the most of the flexibility the University offers, working compressed weeks, using the onsite gym and taking daily walks around campus. My favourite place to have lunch at work is the University Lawns outside the Barr Smith Library.

As someone who’s always on the move both professionally and personally, I’ve found the University to be a place where I can truly maintain balance. I also feel incredibly supported by my team, who foster a safe and open environment where I can express how I’m feeling.
