South Australia’s Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018  (PID Act) establishes a scheme to encourage and facilitate appropriate disclosures of public interest information.  The PID Act provides protections to Public Officers who may be concerned about reprisals.

About PID protections

Public Interest Disclosures (PIDs) can be about:

  1. Public Administration Information

This is information that raises a potential issue of corruption, misconduct or maladministration in public administration.  Any public officer who makes a disclosure of public interest information will be protected by the PID Act.

  2. Environmental and health information

This refers to information that raises a potential issue of substantial risk to the environment or the health or safety of the public. Protections are available under the PID Act to anyone who makes a disclosure of this nature.
